Dr Gail Besner, Chief of Pediatric Surgeon,
Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus,
Ohio, confirmed a successful separation
of conjoined 11-month-old twin girls in
the hospital.
He said on Wednesday that the twins,
Acen and Apio Akello of Uganda, who had
been joined at the pelvic and hip region,
were successfully separated after a 16-
hour surgery.
Besner said the three-dimensional
modeling was used to help the
neurosurgeons divide their intertwined
spinal cords.
“My hope is that they will be able to sit up
on their own, walk and play like any other
child.
The pediatric surgeon said the girls and
their mother, Ester Akello, arrived at the
hospital in December.
He said the sisters had surgery earlier in
2015 to prepare their skin for the
separation and would need additional
surgery.
The surgeon noted that conjoined twins
occur in about one in 200,000
pregnancies.
Besner said the sisters were the fourth
set of conjoined twins the hospital had
separated successfully since 1978.

shopping centre in Kenya's capital with a
suspected explosive device, which has

The Garden City Mall, one of the biggest

European Commission President Jean-
Claude Juncker has announced plans
that he says will offer a "swift,
determined and comprehensive" response
to Europe's migrant crisis.
Under the proposals, 120,000 additional
asylum seekers will be distributed among
EU nations, with binding quotas.

through Europe in recent days.

migrants it has pledged to take from
Germany, having committed to receive

Conditions were reported to be improving
on the Greek holiday island of Lesbos,
where thousands of migrants have now
been screened and put aboard ferries to
Athens in a new government drive.
In a separate development Australia,
which has been under pressure to do
more to help displaced people, has
announced plans to take in 12,000

National Sports Commission (NSC) and
the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN),
following her appearance at the Zurich
Diamond League on Thursday, a few days
after she failed to run for Nigeria in the
200m event at the just concluded IAAF
World Championship in Beijing, China.
Guardian reports that Okagbare was Team
Nigeria’s medal hope at the IAAF
Championship in Beijing but she fumbled
in the 100m final, finishing last, and also
failed to show up for the 200m event four
days later, despite appearing in the warm
up area. She claimed injury and while
some Nigerians were yet to come to terms
on what transpired in Beijing, there was a
shocker a few days ago, when Okagbare
announced she will not be representing
Team Nigeria for the 11th All Africa
Games in Congo, an action which AFN
and NSC finds unpatriotic.

Nigerian Army have arrested some group of
people that supplies drugs to Boko Haram.
The men were found with
hard drugs and other stimulants. A
statement by the spokesperson of the
Nigerian army, Sani Usman, said the men
were arrested at Geidam local government
in Borno state. The statement in part
reads;
"You will recall that sometimes ago we
reported that ironically most of the
Boko Haram terrorists captured by
Nigerian military cannot read the Holy
Qur’an, some of them cannot even
recite the first chapter- Suratuh Al-
Fatiha and yet they claimed they
wanted to establish an ‘Islamic State’.
When the Nigerian military captured
their bases and training camps, they
never found Qur’an or other Islamic
books, what were mostly found were
ammunition, local charms, condoms
and all sorts of drugs, including sex
enhancing ones in their enclaves. The
arrest of these drug suppliers has
reinforced that fact, more so as they
have been making very useful
statements. The Nigerian Army would
continue to do its best in the fight
against terrorism and insurgency in our
country in order to make Nigeria safe

A female student (name undisclosed) of the University of Lagos state Nigeria, was electrocuted on September 8th, 2015 after a high tension cable fell on her in front of
the Sodeinde hall of residence in the

A British Airways plane bound for London
has caught fire at Las Vegas airport,
forcing the evacuation of 172 people on
board on emergency slides.
According to rapports
the Boeing 777 which was bound
for London's Gatwick Airport,was getting
ready to take off when passengers heard a
loud sound. After a minute, the pilot told
the passengers that there was an
emergency and they needed to evacuate.
US Federal Aviation Administration
spokesman Ian Gregor said the left
engine of the Boeing 777-200 caught fire
before take-off.
The plane was seen engulfed in flames
and smoke. The fire was later put out.
Airport officials said at least 14 people
were taken to hospital with minor injuries,
no one was seriously injured.
The only minor injuries was sustained as
passengers slid down the inflatable
chutes to evacuate the plane.
